Living Things and their Microenvironments

This unit has been designed to help deepen the students’ understanding of how living things live and interact within microenvironments. The students will choose a microenvironment to investigate. They will describe the microenvironment and create a labelled diagram of it. They will observe it over a period of time and record any changes to the living things within the environment. In groups, the students will then create a mural for their microenvironment. They will investigate an animal and attach it to the mural in the form of a “lift the flap”. The students will investigate how livings things within the microenvironment interact and will design and create a food chain on the computer to represent this. Finally, the students will participate in a design and make task where they create a model of a microenvironment.
