Tashi and Tashi and the Giants by Anna and Barbara Fienberg

In this mini unit, the students will listen and respond to the stories “Tashi” and “Tashi and the Giants” by Anna and Barbara Fienberg. The students will complete tasks in the three strands related to the texts. In Reading, they will create a character profile of Tashi, complete a cloze passage, discuss how the illustrations contribute to the meaning in the text, and story map. The students will also read the description of Chintu’s castle and illustrate. Finally, in Reading, they will compare the characters, plot and settings in the different stories they have listened to. In Writing, the students will make a dragon and write a description for it. They will also jointly construct and then independently write a new Tashi adventure. In Talking and Listening, the students will participate in a hot seat activity and a small group discussion. They will retell an adventure of their own and introduce one of the Tashi characters.
